Penniless and exhausted, he threw himself into the ocean. The man who bought the farm from him soon discovered the earth was filled with diamonds and became filthy rich.</p><p style="font-stretch: inherit; margin: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; padding: 0px; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; margin-bottom: 1.5em;">Conwell reinforces this point with the story of a mineralogist who sold his home to hunt for wealthy mines. To make a risky move and lose teaches one to act with more caution and wisdom. He tells the tale of a man who spends half of his tiny amount of money on things no one wants. On this principle, the man turned 62 ½ cents into 40 million dollars.</p></div></div></li><li style="font-stretch: inherit; margin: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; padding: 0px; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; list-style-type: inherit; list-style-position: outside;"><div style="font-weight: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; margin: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px;"><div style="font-weight: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; margin: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px;"><h3 style="font-size: 1.3125em; margin: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; font-stretch: inherit; padding: 0px; font-family: inherit; text-align: left; line-height: 1.15; font-weight: normal; margin-top: 2.28571em; margin-bottom: 0.75em;">#7 Success Comes to the Observant</h3><p style="font-weight: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; margin: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px;">Conwell details the story of John Jacob Astor, who was renting a store to bonnet-makers who could not pay their bills. He started a partnership with the same people in the same store. He went across the street, sat on a park bench and watched the women walk by. When he saw one walk past with confident posture and a smile on her face, he took note of her bonnet. The Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton once said..." the only disability in life is a bad attitude " and I have often used that quote in my classroom and on the field to set up a discussion about effort and mindset in times of adversity.<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>As a football coach, I often draw attention to other coaches to highlight essential life observations. Coach Holtz once expounded the notion that "life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it"...I can attest to witnessing this phenomenon on the football field, track, and in the classroom.<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>Leaders lead through times of adversity with the proper perspective. Keep a positive attitude about your day or situation and it will be much easier to keep your train on the right track. Perspective and a Positive Attitude Craig Ball Spinwit<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>I came across two different poems that illustrate the concept of perspective. The following two poems were written by a talented young girl named Chanie Gorkin...at the time she was an 11th grader in NY...she has a real talent for exposing the differences in perspective. The first poem is written with a negative outlook and the second one is written with a positive outlook. Take the time to read both poems carefully and look for what both poems have in common with eachother...think perspective.<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>Poem #1(Negativity)<br clear="none"/>Today was the absolute worst day ever<br clear="none"/>And don’t try to convince me that<br clear="none"/>There’s something good in every day<br clear="none"/>Because, when you take a closer look,<br clear="none"/>This world is a pretty evil place.<br clear="none"/>Even if<br clear="none"/>Some goodness does shine through once in a while<br clear="none"/>Satisfaction and happiness don’t last.<br clear="none"/>And it’s not true that<br clear="none"/>It’s all in the mind and heart<br clear="none"/>Because<br clear="none"/>True happiness can be obtained<br clear="none"/>Only if one’s surroundings are good<br clear="none"/>It’s not true that good exists<br clear="none"/>I’m sure you can agree that<br clear="none"/>The reality<br clear="none"/>Creates<br clear="none"/>My attitude<br clear="none"/>It’s all beyond my control<br clear="none"/>And you’ll never in a million years hear me say that<br clear="none"/>Today was a good day<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>I wanted to point out that one trait that all successful leaders share is their ability to see desperate situations in a positive light while displaying confidence. Before you read the positive perspective poem, take a quick look at this quote by Kim Orlesky...She is an entrepreneur that once remarked that "to be successful, your focus has to be so intense that others might think you're crazy". Finding the positive perspective in the darkest of times is not easy...when you are seeing solutions to problems while others are still focusing on the negatives...I can assure you that you are on the right track.<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>Poem #2(Positivity)<br clear="none"/>Today was a good day<br clear="none"/>And you’ll never in a million years hear me say that<br clear="none"/>It’s all beyond my control<br clear="none"/>My attitude<br clear="none"/>Creates<br clear="none"/>The reality<br clear="none"/>I’m sure you can agree that<br clear="none"/>It’s not true that good exists<br clear="none"/>Only if one’s surroundings are good<br clear="none"/>True happiness can be obtained<br clear="none"/>Because<br clear="none"/>It’s all in the mind and heart<br clear="none"/>And it’s not true that<br clear="none"/>Satisfaction and happiness don’t last.<br clear="none"/>Some goodness does shine through once in a while<br clear="none"/>Even if<br clear="none"/>This world is a pretty evil place.<br clear="none"/>Because, when you take a closer look,<br clear="none"/>There’s something good in every day<br clear="none"/>And don’t try to convince me that<br clear="none"/>Today was the absolute worst day ever<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>After reading the two poems...there is no doubt the view of our world can be seen in very different ways. Now do me a favor and reread Poem #1 from another perspective...this time from the bottom to the top...it is only then that you realize that both poems are one in the same. It is funny how a simple change in perspective makes all the difference.<br clear="none"/><br clear="none"/>Leaders lead through times of adversity with the proper perspective. Keep a positive attitude about your day or situation...it will give you a much better chance at success in the long run.<br clear="none"/></div>

What is thinking?https://contentintheraw.postach.io/post/what-is-thinking2017-11-17T15:30:48.912000Z2017-11-15T22:01:41ZCraig Ball<div>I like to ponder the idea that Thinking means concentrating on one thing long enough to develop an idea about it....so multitasking, in short, is not only not thinking, it impairs your ability to think.</div>
<div><br /></div>
<div>Original thoughts are vital when moving an idea, project or great action forward. To have an original thought...you must learn how to think.</div>
<div><br /></div>
<div>I pride myself on being able to produce an original thought, and I do think that interesting stuff happens when you are aware of your own thoughts...something that is yours...something you own outright...something not borrowed or hijacked.</div>
<div><br /></div>
<div>“I’ve spent my life trying to undo habits—especially habits of thinking. They narrow your interaction with the world. They’re the phrases that come easily to your mind, like: ‘I know what I think,’ or ‘I know what I like,’ or ‘I know what’s going to happen today.’ If you just replace ‘know’ with ‘don’t know,’ then you start to move into the unknown. And that’s where the interesting stuff happens." — Humans of New York</div>

It may not function in the exact same way in schools because, for the most part, students need to attend class, but MOOCs can certainly help with their short attention spans and possibly allow time for more hands-on activities during class time.</span></p><h1 style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 32px; margin: 6px 0px; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; color: #c8000e; font-weight: 400; margin-top: 33px; margin-bottom: 23px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><strong style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: bold;">Assign One Learning Objective Per Asset</strong></span></h1><p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 26px; color: #000000;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">At the beginning of a microlearning segment, you want to <a shape="rect" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: #c8000e; text-decoration: none;" href="http://projectmgmt.brandeis.edu/resources/infographics/goal-setting-101-why-smart-goals-are-important-to-project-success/" target="_blank"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">set a goal</span></a> for the learner that clearly explains what they are supposed to get from the lesson. If the learner understands the objective, they are more likely to stay on track, retain the information given, and succeed. It’s a good idea to work on one point at a time, as too much information can overwhelm a student and hinder them from learning. If you try to include too many objectives, your content will become longer and you may lose your audience.</span></p><h1 style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 32px; margin: 6px 0px; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; color: #c8000e; font-weight: 400; margin-top: 33px; margin-bottom: 23px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><strong style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: bold;">Use Video</strong></span></h1><p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 26px; color: #000000;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Learners these days have a <a shape="rect" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: #c8000e; text-decoration: none;" href="https://elearningindustry.com/why-microlearning-is-huge" target="_blank"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">90-second</span></a> attention span. 90 seconds! That may seem like a short amount of time when you are used to hour-long sessions, but you’re essentially breaking up that hour into small segments, each highlighting a different point. You could make a great quality video with just your smartphone camera and good lighting – a little extra effort will ensure better reception of the content.</span></p><h1 style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 32px; margin: 6px 0px; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; color: #c8000e; font-weight: 400; margin-top: 33px; margin-bottom: 23px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><strong style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: bold;">Scenario-based Learning</strong></span></h1><p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 26px; color: #000000;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Most people, in general, learn better by doing, and microlearning makes a great platform for scenario-based learning. While videos work well for explaining </span>content<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"> in short bursts, little challenges can help the student put the content into practice. Instead of piling on the theory, students can be given a scenario in which they have to do the problem-solving. This works especially well with employee training programs, helping new hires tackle workplace problems. But it could also be a great method for young learners to see theory in action – for example, after watching a video on how to do a mathematical equation, the student could then be given a scenario in which the equation must be used to solve a real-world problem.</span></p><h1 style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 32px; margin: 6px 0px; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; color: #c8000e; font-weight: 400; margin-top: 33px; margin-bottom: 23px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><strong style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: bold;">Prove Learning Took Place Through Gamificatio</strong>n</span></h1><p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 26px; color: #000000;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Showing learners their progress in a tangible way keeps them motivated.
